Converting mpeg4 (music files) to mp3?
I know, I know this should be no brainer, but I just spent nearly 2 days loading my library with nearly 1000 songs. Some are already mp3, and the others are ACC (mpeg4) files. What I want to do is convert them all to mp3 so I can burn the to CD's for reloading later. That way I can get 100-150 songs per CD rather than 18-20.
I use iTunes as my music player, and I like it (I'm an old Mac user, and some of their stuff is just really easy to use, and works very well. ITunes is one of those). Unfortunately, in order to put the quantity of songs I want, onto a CD, they must be mp3 files. So how do I do that. I can't seem to find a "save as mp3" convertion with in iTunes. It will allow me to burn them as mp3, but doesn't convert them. I also have Roxio 6, but there again it doesn't convert them to mp3. Is there a free program out there that will do this. I'd even be willing to buy one, but this is a one time thing. Once they are converted and burned to CD I'd have no more need of the program. Any idea's or help would be very much appreciated. I use dbPowerAmp Music converter to convert my music. I converted all my files from .mpg to .mp3 (about 15,000 songs) and it took about 3 days on my 500mhz dually P3 server system. I have used dbPowerAMP for years with zero problems!

dbPowerAmp would be my recommendation also.
Keep in mind, however, that in the latest version the ability to convert to MP3 is limited by a trial period (older versions were completely free). Freakitchen

You can use itunes for this.
Itunes preferences / importing, change the import format to mp3 (whatever bitrate you like) then exit preferences. You then right click on the music files in your itunes library and choose convert to mp3.

Thanks Y'all! Mac Medic, thanks very much for showing me that about iTunes. I knew there had to be a way to do it, but couldn't seem to find out how. That's why I mentioned that iTunes was my library/player program. I'm now converting my songs to mp3! Thanks to everyone for their help, it's much appreciated.
