Unhappy Problems with Nero6

I have recently downloaded Winamp, but didn't like the way it associated all my tracks to itself, and wasn't keen on it anyway. So I uninstalled it, checked that there were no references to it in the registry etc.

However, when I burnt tracks to Cd, Nero started converting them all to Winamp files! I checked the PC over again, uninstalled Nero, then reinstalled it again. Same problem. So I burned some tracks using Media Player, now Nero is converting all my tracks to that format. It is driving me mad.

All I want is the damn thing to work correctly again, and burn all in WAV format. I even have a converter and converted all to WAV prior to using Nero, but even that didn't work.

Can some one please help?

Mike

P.S I run XP with a PIII

Are you using Nero, or Nero Express - and please list the exact steps you are doing to burn your audio CD.

Are you burning a Audio-CD or a mp3-CD? There's a big difference but I know using the Nero SmartStart or Nero Express it can be confusing - people assume that since they are using mp3 files they should select mp3-CD.

I have Nero 6, and use both express and burning rom. In burning rom I drag and drop, in express I use add files.
The problem has occurred in both options. I always use audio CD option, I don't burn MP3s as I don't have an MP3 player. I play all my audio on regular Hi Fi systems. I convert all tracks to WAV before burning them, Nero is re-converting them during the burn process!

First, there's no need to convert to wav before burning - Nero can transcode mp3s to uncompressed CD audio on the fly.

Second, if you're doing the drag and drop, there cretainly shouldn't be a problem. Is the bar at the bottom shown in time (80 minutes) or MB (700)?

Also, have you upgraded Nero 6 to all the latest updates that are available from the Ahead website?

I have not been able upgrade to re-loaded, as I have an OEM copy and would have to pay. I'm not paying for a load of 'whistles and bells' that I am not going to get any real benefit from.
The bar at the bottom is shown in MB, and I never try to overburn. As you say, Nero can convert on the fly, problem is that it's converting to the wrong format after I have dropped the files ready to burn!
This problem never occurred before, until I stupidly tried Winamp.
