windows office

I was wondering if Microsoft XP home came with it's Office. Like word, excel, publisher, etc. All those things that usually come with a stock computer.
If not, how would i get those? i heard that the software for that can be really expensive? if so, are there trustworthy free alternatives 'out there'?

XP Home and Pro are just the Operating Systems. Neither has any Office programs built in. Microsoft sells MS Office in several different flavors. Office doesn't usually come installed on prebuilt computers either. Most use MS Works or some other office package. There is a free Office program available that you can download. It is most often used with Linux operating systems. It's called Open Office.

I also am going to try open office... I have debated it before, and use the similar programs on the few linux distros I have, but will try out the windows version.

I just downloaded it too, personnally I think it is great for the first 20 minutes of playing around with it, saves me the money of purchasing windows office, and has all the same features, a nice look, and well frankly I think its help is much better than windows. It gets my two thumbs up.

OpenOffice has some competition now. Sun has just released a new version of Staroffice with a lot of new features, although you only get a 90 day trial version.
