Alternative to WinZip
My expiration period to WinZip expired and I am looking for a free (and legal) way of unzipping files in WinZip. It feels like ransome money having to pay to unzip a file. They want $30...forget it. It would be nice if people would stop compressing files under WinZip...isn't that one of the reasons we have broadband now?
Thanks

XP has "compressed folders" which will handle it. WinRar is also shareware. The only freeware zip utility I know of is 7-Zip and it's not very user friendly.

I got it now. You have to save to disk first and then double click on the file...you cant open it with "other"

Or there's a simple program called "Pakscape", it works nicely too.

Although it's frowned upon, I've used the evaluation version of Winzip indefinitely. I just reformatted Windows so I'm not sure if my newly installed copy will behave the same, but it always worked for me after the evaluation period.
It should still work for you since when I use it now, it doesn't tell me of any evaluation time limit but gives me the please buy splash screen.

winzip will still work ok, it does not stop functioning, it just gives you the display that the time is up, you can still keep useing it as you have.
