Windows Media Player, Trouble

Hi all
I can't seem to get any video on my windows media player. When I click on a link that someone send me or even putting a DVD into my cdrom drive, the player comes up ok, but all I get is sound, the audio.
I have checked my Direct X and that is ok, it is up to date and the test say all is ok.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled.and have the latest version but same thing, no video, just audio.
I kind of feel that it is a "Windows" problem, I am running xp home. Is there some settings I should check?
Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.
Thanks...

Sounds like you don't have the correct codec installed to play the videos. Download them from Microsoft and install them. If they don't work, post the video file extension, and we can find the codec you need.

Thanks, I did download the ones from Microsoft that you suggested, but no luck.
The file extension of the one I am trying to play is mdf, and mds.
Thanks again.

load ".mdf, mds" file in Alcohol 120%(not free) or Daemon Tools(free)
these are cd/dvd image files
you can also use Isobuster(free) to convert it to some other video format.
