What does this mean?

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvTweak]
"CoolBits"=dword:00000003

Apparently I need to do something with it in order to get NVTweak to allow the overclocking of a graphics card. Any detailed explanation on how to get CoolBits working would be very appreciated. From what I can tell its a registry edit and I have never entered the registry..dont even know where to start. Yes, I am aware that a bad registry edit can really mess things up.

Thanks

What you do is save that text into a text file, but give that file the extention .reg, then double click that file, and hit yes to add that info. As usual, back up ur registry before doing this.

Are you talking about tweaking with Coolbits to enable SLI AA 8/16?

**If so, you need open regedit (type this in run), open local machine, then software, then nvidia corp, then global, then click on nvtweak and a list of entries should be on the right. If so, right click and select new, D word and call it Coolbits (just like that) then right click on the new entry and change the value to what ever it is you are trying to do (if it is enable SLI AA 8/16 then set it to the value of 8).
I forget how I finished off this tweak, but you can find the rest here.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/slizone_sliAA_howto2

I am not sure I know what you are talking about if it isnt this. I was not aware you used coolbits to OC the graphics cards.

Ah HA... I found this on Ocing with coolbits http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/33 But I am not 100% sure its would work for both cards at once...

Just found this "Make sure to check out the release notes PDF for this driver. There are some open issues that will be fixed in the next driver release that are worth noting. “GeForce 6 Series, SLI: Overclocking using Coolbits does not work when SLI mode is enabled.” and “GeForce 6800: The Temperature Settings in the Display Properties reports an approximately 20% higher temperature than with the previous driver version.” and “GeForce 6 Series, SLI: After exiting a 3D game, the NVIDIA clock frequency remains at the higher 3D-performance frequency instead of reducing to the standard clock frequency.”

There are also some game specific problems which we did encountered in our testing such as “GeForce 6800 GT/Ultra SLI, Windows XP: Running the game Chronicles of Riddick with SLI enabled results in corruption or application crash.” and “GeForce 6 Series: Stuttering appears in different portions of the game EverQuest2.” We will explain more on the following pages in this article."

I was looking at how to backup the registry and wondered if using System Restore would fix a bad registry edit?

I got to NVTweak in the registry. What do I do with: "CoolBits"=dword:00000003. What does Regedit 14 mean?...do I do something with it?

Ryan,
I am attempting to install Coolbits so that I can overclock my graphics cards. I cannot figure out what to do. Have you successfully installed Coolbits?

This: http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_9.html is where I found out that if you want to overclock a 7800GTX using NVTweak that you have to download Coolbits 2.0. My whole goal here is to have the option of overclocking my graphics cards. Do you know of an easier/simpler method to do this?

Okay, I wasnt quiet sure what you meant... But why do you want to OC a 7800gtx?

Also if this is for the computer in your sig then you should still make sure that Coolbits 2.0 will OC both cards.

Because Grasshopper...It is more fun to make a Ferrari go fast than to make a Hyundai go fast....

In SLI both cards are treated the same and the same settings are applied to both.

So what do I do with: "CoolBits"=dword:00000003 and REGEDIT4 ?

Read this for the Coolbits hack explanation : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/V...Bits-Reg.shtml

If you've got the registry backed up and are feeling daring, go for it.

The easiest way for you to get the coolbits hack working would probably be to download NVHardpage 2 from www.guru3d.com and run it. You will get an option to turn on/turn off the coolbits extension.

You don't have to go near the registry. A .reg file is a registry merge file. They are easy to create, just like described.
