The first time I set up XP there was a language bar that would speak the text in a word document if I put the cursor at the begining of any sentence. I had a system crash about a year ago and have not been able to get this feature to work since. I can get the language bar which shows an icon for a mic and one for tools but none for speaking the text. Anyone have any ideas as to where it went? When I installed everything I did exactly the same way as the first time.
Thanks Gene |

It's at accessories-accessability-narrator.

That'll work I think but it's not quite what was there. I think I might have found it as part of the MS office package won't know until I get home and load up the CD.

Microsoft Reader has a text to speech function also, but i think it only reads e-books.

Found the problem and the solution. The "Speak" function of the language bar and most of the language bar features are part of MS Office 2002 and office XP. To get the computer to speak the text that you type you must first train the voice recognition software even though it'll be the machines voice talking. You train it by speaking clearly into your mic and reading the blocks of text the computer shows you. Now all I need are more voices for the computer to choose from. I'm using LH Michelle but if there are others that anyone knows about please email me or post them here.
Thanks guys. |
