Norton Ghost 2003 --- many .gho files created
I have a 3.4 GH Dell Desktop with a 250 GB hard drive. I also have a 200 GB western Digital External HD for backup. I did my first "ghosting" of my 250 GB HD last night, and I have a question:
My old system was small (6 GB HD), and when I created a ghost file, it always was 1file created, about 1-2 GB in size. With my new system, when I created the GHOST copy of the 250 GB drive, it created many .gho files, each one about 3 GB in size? Is this correct? If it is, how would I use these 12 to 18 .gho files if I had to go "image to disk" to fix a problem? Thanks, --- I hope this question makes sense... |

I don't see a problem there. Ghost files are small so they can be burned to CD / DVD (depending on size setting) for safe keeping. The actual number of files depend on how much actual data you have, and what compression, if any, you use. To restore, all the files have to be there or it will fail.

Great, thanks! But how would you do a restore with more than one .gho file? I've had to do a few before on my old system, but there was only 1 .gho file, so I chose "image to disk", selected the 1 file, and that was it. Now, with about 15 files, would I do it "image to disk" 15 times, or would they all be chosen at the same time?

Actually, for a restore, it would be "from image." You'd open the first file and Ghost will go from there if all the files involved are also present. If you have the full Ghost package, there is an Image view you can use to see what's in an image series, and to make sure they are all there.

Excellent! I was hoping that you were going to say that...
Thanks, again, for the help and advice... |
