Removing Opaque crosshairs with photoshop

I just downloaded Half Life 2: Lost Coast and took some screen shots. I have photoshop and was trying to figure a way to remove the crosshairs and health bar etc from these beautiful images. I can't figure out a way. Is there an automated way to do this and make it look good? The crosshairs are opaque, so the tones underneith them are there. Anyone have any ideas?

I would normally use a combination of copying/pasting similar sections and covering the crosshair, in addition to using the "Healing Brush". If you want to send me an example, I can see what's best if you want.

Sometimes it takes trial and error to find the best method,

Usually I'd take the first screenshot, and then take a similar view but looking in a slightly different direction... then copy and paste

Actually, that's a fantastic idea Jag. You could even feather the edges when you paste the "patch" sections in so you don't see any seams and it blends perfectly.

You know, I don't care what all those other members say, you're a pretty clever guy Jag.

The healing clone tool works very well, I just need to master how to use it

Got the pic Two Bit, just haven't had a chance to have a go at it. I just did a full re-install of windows last weekend and haven't put Photoshop back on my machine yet. As soon as I do, I'll give it a try.

After seeing the image, I would use the clone tool zoomed WAAAY in to see each individual pixel. The crosshair is so thin, you could probably remove it quite easily at about 1200x or 1600x magnification.

Just wanted to let you know I didn't forget about you.
