Hey guys,
I can't afford Alcohol 120% right now, but i still want to back-up and watch but not burn DVD's. I know that you can do this using a combination of Nero, DVD Decrypter, and DVD shrink -- But which ones do i need to JUST watch DVD's from my HD? Is there a free version of Nero? How do i use these softwares? EDIT: I am under the impression that when ripping the DVD to the HD using one of these programs, it is saved as a format called "ISO"? What software can be used to watch the ISO files? Thanks all --- Last edited by MakeYourslf2012; 11-05-2005 at 05:29 PM. |

so using DVD Decrypter will not allow me to watch these files?
EDIT: Alright, sorry for my impatience lol , but i download and installed both DVD Decrypter and Daemon tools.I just finished decrypting the movie The Matrix Reloaded and i tried mounting the files to the virtual drive in Daemon tools - which doesn't work. I thought DVD Decrypter turns the DVDs into ISO images files? from looking though the folder I saved this movie to, it looks like all the file names end in .VOB, meaning it's in a format called .VOB? What the heck? Last edited by MakeYourslf2012; 11-05-2005 at 06:23 PM. |

Then, just use a DVD player software like PowerDVD or WinDVD to play it back. You'd have to rip in File mode for that, btw. Quote:

Rip your DVD in file mode, then the DVD playback software can handle it. RJ

Your version of Nero *might* include a media player. I think it's called Nero Showtime.

Nero Show Time sucks big time, so does WMP. Get DVDclassic free download. It's light and small, but very powerful. It plays almost anything.
I would not store DVDs in my HDD. It gets badly fragmented and slow. John

I have done both with the same movie - first I created an ISO image then I created a folder containing all the VOB, IFO and BUP files.
Now I can watch the movie with the VOB, IFO, BUP files, right? Which one do I select in WinDVD to open? (I tried opening one of the VOB files in WMP and it said it didnt support the format.) |

Ah, well. . WinDVD is kinda strange in this aspect.
It wants the IFO, BUP and VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder. If the folder is not named VIDEO_TS, WinDVD refuses playback. So just rename the folder containing the files VIDEO_TS, and select that folder in WinDVD. . . then it'll play the content back. RJ |

I have a WD 120 GB external HD. When decrypting the movies - if i save it to there, is it still playable in WinDVD?

The folder containing the IFO, BUP and VOB files, has to be named VIDEO_TS. That is all that matters to WinDVD.
