Problem trying to burn a data DVD

I am currently trying to burn a DVD that will contain the MPG captured from my camcorder. The MPG file is approx. 2.5 GB. When I use Nero, I get an error message about the file size being too large for ISO. I tried another file type (UDM I think) and the DVD burned successfullly, but when I inserted it in the DVD drive it was unable to be read.

Please help.

Thanks

What kind of blank did you use ? What DVD-ROM drive do you have ?
Also, did you finalize the DVD ?

Not sure of the brand on the blank disk, I purchased a lot by bulk over the internet a couple years ago and have had no trouble with them. My burner is a SONY DRU500A. I have a second Samsung DVD-ROM drive in the computer and it will not read the mpg file either. I have some new sony blank disks that I recently purchased to back up my old home videos and I will try it with one of those.

As for "finalizing", I just followed the prompts in Nero and the disk ejected with a "successful" message on the screen. I will try this process again tonight with the brand name media and watch for any finalizing step that I may have skipped.

Thanks you for your assistance.

Is the blank a plus or minus?

I have tried again with Sony blank disks and experienced the same problem when using Nero and the UDF file type that Nero needs when burning files larger than 2 GB. All the blank disks I have used are -R and work fine in other situations. I tried Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator and it successfully burned a data DVD containing a mpg file larger than 2GB. It did have a choice to finalize the Disk and I checked that option. The Roxio software never specified using UDFfile type unless it did it behind the scenes transparently.

I am transferring the mpg's to the DVD's until I have time to edit all the videos that were originally stored on 8mm analog tape which I read is subject to deterioration over time. I will now have the material on mini DV tapes and the mpg's on DVD.

Thank you for any replies or suggestions.
