Slowed down PC

I have a couple of minor problems I hope someone can help me with. First when I attempt to open "my computer" the flashlight icon comes on and seems to be taking longer and longer to open the window with drives on my computer. This also seems to effect my save as function on excel. Second, I use to have to only key in "yahoo.com" on the address window and after hitting "go" the browser would automatically fill out the http:www and direct me to the site or any site for that matter. I tried the autofill function and that does not seem to work. I have defrag the pc and everything else seems to be ok. Any suggestions ?

Spyware is what comes to mind then .
Ctrl-Alt-Del and see what's running on your machine.
But a few other questions.
How old is that install of XP and how much drive space do you have left?

Do you often run spyware removing apps like AdAware, Spybot S&D, and Spyware Doctor? How about AntiVirus Programs, do you scan often?
Have you added anything lately like Norton which could be eating away your system resources?
Have you run Hijack This and had it anylized lately?

When the IE auto-complete settings box comes up what does it show?
Do not randomly shut down the items in processes.
From your description you've got something running "real-time' in the background. One of the usual trouble makers is one of those complete security suites and the more updates they have the worse it can get.
30 sounds about right, many more would have been really suspicious.
Just read over the list, check programs running as well, for anything you don't recognize.

Processes are given weird names, you might want to google them to make sure you aren't trying to close something important.
