After disabling messenger, Outlook starts slow

I receive "tip of the day" emails from pcmech. Today I got one explaining how to disable messenger. I had to do a few things in registry then reboot. Now when I launch Outlook it takes about 20-30 seconds to load. Anybody have any thoughts????

thanks

Yes, I'm going to asume you mean Outlook Express, if not forgive me but anyways open OE, then at the top click on tools, then go down and click on options, and right there on the first page, which is the general tab, look to be sure 'Automatically Log onto Windows Messenger' is unchecked. I'll bet it's still checked and since you removed WM, OE is still trying to find it...

Not Express, just Outlook. I went into "other" tab and disabled "instant messaging" and now Outlook starts up real speedy like!!!

Great, at least it sounds like I pointed you in the right direction, I didn't know Outllook had that check by default also, and since I use Outlook, I'm going to check mine also, but I probably got that one and just don't remember..

I don't see that option in my Outlook, I use 2003 version on and exchange server. Down at the bottom though is the messenger symbol but the heading is Smart Names tags and I have that checked, but show messenger status unchecked. Those are the only options that look like anything to do with messenger in my other tab..
