Go to "run" in Windows Start tab, type msconfig, there is a startup tab that you go in to and uncheck programs that you don't won't to start ar boot.

Hi, hope i'm not "stealing' a thread here. If the unwanted items are unchecked are they still available for use & how does one access them? Thanks RevCLB

You access those by running the program, such I have one of my antivirus programs set not to start on login, but all I have to do is click on the program to start it, similarily like you would if you were opening internet explorer.

what happens if you take out stuff you should have in the startup menu?
For instance if you take out the "regristry..." do you lose something you needed to see the screen?
I'd hate to have to admit I lost my ability to get back to MSCONFIG and put the necessary stuff back in there.

Flanzig, thank you very much.
I have asked many folks lately how to clear out the Startup menu, nobody knew, but you did, and now I do.
I cleaned my PC up and it's soooooo much faster now.
It even stays online.

I did the fatal mistake of taking my Modem out. Finally recognized the little funny looking program as my modem when I had to reload the Robitcs CD.

This 'trial and error' PC education is very time consuming.

Here is a good place to check your start up programs, it tells you which are needed and which can be removed safely.
