Motherboard Monitor

SpeedFan

These will only work if your motherboard has system monitoring capability (health monitor chip on the motherboard).

Question That's something I sorta took for granted this time around, BUT . .

When did it become pretty much a standard inclusion? I was assembling most of my PC's in the 286/ 386/486 days because I could save so much doing it that way, then the white box stores started getting so much better prices than I could, and it was as cheap to let them assemble my Pentium PC's for me. There was no temperature monitoring in the older pre-Pentium era, and I can't recall whether the PI and PII systems had it or not.

Was this only added when the CPU's began their upward heat spiral, back with the Pentium Pro and P5/MMX PI's? It has seemed as if everything that I've played with since starting back into self- assembling systems has has these "System Health" sensors.
