if you are not here to help people who do not understand this stuff, why are messing with me.??

why do you reply and not be of any assistance, please dont bother
"Not Helping" me again, thank you very much,

PassNThru, click on the blue link, it will answer your question. The Google thing is LJ's signature, not a comment to you, so there's no need to get antsy yourself

PassNthru, lil Jimmie is a very well respected member here. Here is what his link points to if you would have taken the time to mouse click on it:

Quote:
A high-level programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java was originally called OAK, and was designed for handheld devices and set-top boxes. Oak was unsuccessful so in 1995 Sun changed the name to Java and modified the language to take advantage of the burgeoning World Wide Web.

Java is an object-oriented language similar to C++, but simplified to eliminate language features that cause common programming errors. Java source code files (files with a .java extension) are compiled into a format called bytecode (files with a .class extension), which can then be executed by a Java interpreter. Compiled Java code can run on most computers because Java interpreters and runtime environments, known as Java Virtual Machines (VMs), exist for most operating systems, including UNIX, the Macintosh OS, and Windows. Bytecode can also be converted directly into machine language instructions by a just-in-time compiler (JIT).

Java is a general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the World Wide Web. Small Java applications are called Java applets and can be downloaded from a Web server and run on your computer by a Java-compatible Web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

OK, this is clearly a misunderstanding by PassNThru of LilJimmie's honorable intentions. PassNThru, please take a look at our Forum Rules regarding treatment of fellow members. No need to lash out at someone for what they have said/written. If you feel insulted in the future please use the Report Post link in the bottom right. This will notify us moderators that something is amiss and needs attention. Let's call this one "no harm, no foul" and let it go. Just to help claify, here's an excerpt from the Rules:

"The moderator staff will not tolerate flaming, childish name-calling or other types of personal attacks on the forum. All members, as adults, are expected to be able to have civil discussions at all times...."

I am sorry i misunderstood, but that didnt answer my question either..

it just put me in a loop.. that didnt tell me anything, sounds like they were selling a car, i am not an expert.. exactly what i "Googled" when i started this quest, that is why i am here. to find personal experiences with a product i couldnt understand. I have so many paracite programs now, i have 49 process's in task manager now, this thing barely runs. and i have had to completely reload XP 4 times because i deleted things Xp put in here, before i learned not to mess with their adware.

to clarify... is it worth having..?? what does it do..?? does it make anything better, faster, easier..?? this is a totally anoying pop up, it is relentless which makes me suspecious.. personal experiences with problems..?? items of praise and declarations of wonder..??

my sincere apoligies... i am right brain dominant and if you look at it from my perspective, the reply seems to say why are you bothering me.. look it up..

which i already did.. and the site sounds like a microsoft ad selling something, i was looking for human experience. I know very little about this stuff. I have learning disabilities, It is very frustrating and is one of the very few things that make me crazy.... my sincerest apoligies

For practical purposes (I hope this is what you're looking for, mind you this is a tad oversimplified), JAVA is a programming language that allows scripts and programs to run over the web - on your web browser.
For example: when you run windows update, it's a program that's being run on your web browser. Java is somewhat like that.
Most computers used to ship with an "engine" to allow Java to run (it's called a Java Virtual Machine), in the Windows world however support for the Java VM was removed, and you have to download the virtual machine yourself from http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Is it safe?
Absolutely! It is not a method to infect your computer or anything, it's a legitimate technology that has gazillions of practical implementations all over the place.

Should you download it?
Dont know. If you go to a website that requires Java, you will be prompted that you need to install the Java VM to view whatever code they have on it. It could be something as simple as an animated menu on the side or it could be more complex like configuring your next car online.

FYI:
Your browser does already understand what is known as Javascript, which actually bears no relation to JAVA itself.

HTH
