Yep, you have to burn them to a disk. I think that you could burn them to a virtual disk if you just wanted to view them.

You can open them without burning them using a program called Daemon Tools..

I think thats the name. Try googling Daemon Tools

Isobuster will open them too.

Exactly what do you want to DO with these .iso files? An .iso file is usually an image of a CD. ISO stands for International Standards Organization. To recreate the CD, you need to use your burning software to open the image and burn it. Nero Express is "disk image or saved project", Roxio is File, create CD from disk image.

Warning with Daemon Tools .. make sure that you have an antivirus running. ADW_WHENUSRCH.C loads up from some versions that I've seen!

Interesting. I've been using Daemon Tools for quite some time and I've never had any problems with trojans/viruses/adware. I always download from the official page, so maybe that's it?

Hi Bigandy .. it doesnt matter where you download it from, there are loads of complaints about the search bar on their official forums as well. For example : http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/f33-...searchbar.html Yes you can opt out or even "unintall it" but under a lot of circumstances, people may not realize it. My version did not ask for the installation, Trend Micro picked it up from the temp folder (possibly during extraction by the installer) - another reason why I continue sticking with Trend Micro - and deleted it for me!

Of course, it's a different issue as to whether such search bars should be included with software .. does it constitute a violation of trust? My feeling is YES .. I am downloading Daemon Tools for usage ... I dont want search toolbars with the software. Of course, there is also a complete agreement that there precious little out on the net that is "free"

Addendum: from the release for version 4.0 and this is a quote
Quote:
In order to keep FREE distribution of DAEMON Tools we need to make one more
important change: we offer an option to install client-side advertising software applications:
-"DAEMON Tools Searchbar"- that has integrated DAEMON Tools functionality and also relevant text links
OR/AND
-"Save Now" software module, which delivers a limited number of behaviorally targeted and contextually relevant coupons and comparative shopping results directly to consumer's desktop - without compromising the privacy, security or smooth functioning of peoples' computers!
No URL hijacking or redirects!
These software does not collect or transmit consumers' personally identifiable information. But unlike virtually all other behavioral targeting companies, it does not transmit detailed records of consumers' browsing and purchasing histories or compile databases of their behavioral data to share with third parties, nor does it any type of user profiling!
This software has been independently audited by Richard Purcell (former Chief Privacy Officer of Microsoft and current Chairman of TrustE) to ensure the accuracy of our privacy claims. You can read a summary (http://www.whenu.com/pc_role_audit.html) of the findings or download the full report (http://www.whenu.com/CPGPrivacyAuditOfWhenU.pdf).
We set up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions,
concerns or anything else that is related to these software. The forum's name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar".

In order to support FREE distribution of DAEMON Tools we highly encourage you at least to try out this optional software!
(you can remove it anytime later when you wish: via "Control Panel"-> "Add/Remove Programs")

We leave that decision to you, so please don't blame us that we did
it that way. It was a compromise to continue the free support -
we would much appreciate it if you install that ADWARE-stuff. We set-
up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions,
concerns or anything else that is related to that ADWARE. The forum's
name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar".

Gman depending on what version of Nero you have, you may have an iso file mounting program already. If you dont have the limited edition that came with a burner it should be on your cd if you havent installed it already. It is called Nero ImageDrive. Might be better to use that instead o ftaking a chance with spyware and other crap you dont want or need on your computer.

I think WinRAR can also "unzip" ISO files, as such. My friend was wondering what to do with an ISO he'd downloaded, what was confusing him was that it had a zip file icon! So he could freely look in it and extract things...

Wow, very interesting Statica. I'll have to remember that next time I install a new version.

I don't have the express version, but the version I do have uses the "Smart Start" which seems very similar to the express flavor. For this you choose CD/DVD, and go to the Backup section and choose: Burn image to disc. I don't know if that helps. If not, you can always do like suggested and mount the ISO with D-Tools or any other virtual drive software, and then burn it using the disc copy function.

Yes, you can unpack an ISO, but it's not going to do you much good. You're probably better off just mounting it to a virtual drive if you want to see what's in it.

What it and other virtual drives do is "mount" the iso image as a virtual drive making the pc think there is a physical cd/dvd drive there. They dont burn the images to disc tho, Nero burning will do that for you.
Use d-tools by starting the program and then mount the drive and it will assign it a drive letter. It is helpful to load software from cd that way. Then you wont need to have the disc in the physical drive to use the program. It helps revent damage to the disc because you handle it less. HTH

It may sound stupid, but after installing did you reboot, you need to do that. Anyway, you did follow the correct steps. Did you check in "My computer" to see what is showing as the "disc" in that "drive"?

Check your drives in my computer for a additional cd or dvd drive. Open it and check fro the files your are looking for. And that reboot after the instal lwould be a good idea if you havent already.

Check the virtual drive through the D-Tools tray icon. If it says that something is mounted, dismount it, then remount the image. If it says nothing is mounted then obviously, mount it.
