Programs running very slow on windows for no reason.

I used to have solidworks on my home computer before windows corrupted itself. I re-installed windows, then re-installed solidworks and it runs. It just runs very, very, very slowly, unusable its so slow. It never used to be this way and I have no idea what would cause this. I have never had a problem with it before but I know its gotta be some type of setting or something that changed when I did the reinstall. My computer is more than capable of handling the program and I check what recources it was using and the program just devours processing power. And since im can install it on linux im stuck trying to figure this out for winblows. So please if someone has an idea please mention it.

I figured out its a problem with my graphics card. When I open SW in Open GL it works flawlessly. In direct 3D tho everything chokes. What would cause this?

The graphics card driver or DirectX. Are you sure you installed the correct driver for your card when you reinstalled windows? Have you updated to the most recent DirectX? Open GL doesn't need DirectX but non-Open GL 3d acceleration does so I would check that first.

hmmm ill give it a try. most games that I run have to have direct X9 or greater to run. And yes I have the latest and correct driver from ATI.

You could try that but I think it's more likely a problem with your directx. The fact that solidworks runs OK in opengl mode but not otherwise is the main clue. However, if your other directx games are running fine, it may be a configuration issue with solidworks.
