Hi,
I'll try to explain what I am looking for. I have a spreadsheet where I enter customer orders. The first two columns are 'customer ID number' and 'customer name'. I would like to have it so that if I enter the number in column 1 then it will autofill the name in column 2 that is associated with that number and vice versa. Is this possible? Thanks in advance |

DarkNova - your answer applies to autofilling values in the same column with stuff that is previously entered. That's pretty automatic.
What I want to do is be able to type my customer number in column A and then have it pop up the customer name next to it automatically in column B. If I have to use the formula from the link that Statica entered, does that mean that all the values will have to be already in the spreadsheet somewhere and then how would you apply this formula over and over again for hundreds of orders from different customers? |

The formula assumes that you already have the customer numbers and corresponding customer names somewhere on the spreadsheet; where else do you expect the spreadsheet to lookup the values from?
Regarding duplicating the formula it's pretty simple. For example - check out the attached XL sheet. Sheet 1 contains the Customer names and associated number from which to look up values Sheet 2 contains the area where you enter the customer name in column 1 and it looks up the customer number. To duplicate the formula just extend the formula through as many cells as you want (I dont know if that is what you were looking for). Last edited by Statica; 06-21-2006 at 12:10 PM. |
