Sattelite world view programs

Hi folks, Any opinions on which is the best &/or easiest to use sattelite program? The first I heard of was the NASA World Wind. Downloaded it last year (dial-up, 56k) & found didn't have enough RAM to use it. Just upgraded to 1024MB so think I can handle a program now but more have come on the scene since then. Am also on DSL now. Would value any personal experience. Of course, if I get one I might disappear for a century or 2. I love maps & can get lost in them. Thanks for any feedback, RevCLB

Maps.Google.com Click on the satelite button in the upper right hand corner, though after looking at World wind, it might be a little more detailed then the google one. Im actually downloading world wind now, ill have to check it out.

Google has a downloadable program too, based off of keynote, which they purchased. I'm not sure if I preferred World Wind over Keynote, but that suggests that at the time I thought they were about equal in terms of performance and features.

Google's web service maps.google.com is pretty good for quick and easy satellite views. Microsoft used to have one too. I don't remember the URL but search for MSN terraserver or something like that. It's a web-based service that also offers quick and easy searches.

Hi blue60007. According to Everest Home edition, my CPU is an Intel 2700 MHz. Went to Google site & seems I need a more powerful CPU to handle program. Dou think mine will handle it? Thanks, RevCLB

I don't know if any Intel's run at 2700MHz, but if that's the case, you'll be fine.

Hi blue60007, Went back to Everest Home edition. It said Intel Celeron 2700MHz (27x100) This a cheapo HP A305w machine. I know this can't include a highpower CPU but I STILL don't understand rating systems. Got the new PCMech build CD but have much more to study to understand. Did this give you anymore useful info? Can my electromonster handle this program? Thanks for the help, past & future. RevCLB

Ah yes, a Celeron. The minimum is a Pentium 3 500MHz, and you've got a Pentium 4, 2700MHz, so yours is plenty powerful.

I think world wind is great and noncommercial. Also if you are into stargazing check out Celestia on the NASA site too. Very cool learning program.
