Itunes + QT not working...
So, my computer was having some problems and a system restore was done. The computer was fixed, but files are now missing. My ITunes is no longer opening. Whenever I try to open it it says an unexpected error has occured.
I checked ITunes support on Apple and it said that a way to fix this problem, is to uninstall Quicktime. So I tried it, but in the system restore apparently some files were lost from Quicktime, so the Remove Programs button won't work to remove this (among many others). Well, I reinstalled ITunes which should have reinstalled quicktime, but neither of them work. So I am clueless from here and could use help. Thanks! |

These two programs :
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-dow...cleaner4.3.htm you will do a "clean uninstall" of all the iTunes on your computer (this shouldn't touch the library but if you haven't backed up the folder do it now, better safe then sorry ). Run the Windows Uninstaller first and then run Regcleaner. Be careful with Regcleaner, you're going to use it manually and the only things you want to remove should read, Quicktime/iPod/iTunes. You will also find QuickTimes folders in the C Drive of MY Computer>Programs along with more Apple iTunes and iPod. While your there check for something called Bonjour as well; if you installed it seperately, back in Sept. when it first came out, let it alone; if it was installed with the latest update and is still there delete it. We really mean clean here, except for your music library (just backup the whole iTunes folder) it all goes. One of the things you'll find is that iTunes, Quicktime in particular, can scatter files everywhere and if they're not removed you get the problems you've reported. Now go to the Apple site and download and install the latest Quicktimes ( I think it's 7.3 ) and download and install the latest iTunes ( it will skip the Quicktime install which may spare you alot of grief). These are 2 seperate installs, don't get lazy and try to do both at once. Install QuickTime and run a movie trailer or something, then install iTunes and go to the music store and check your account, play a song, etc. When everything is up and running again set a restore point.

So I did all of what you said so far w/ Reg Cleaner and Windows Unistaller. I Uninstalled Itunes. W/ regcleaner...do I go through every category across the top [software, file type, etc.] and remove all of the files that the description says itunes or quicktime? Because on file types it says .mp3 for iTunes mp3... I just want to be careful not to remove something I don't need to.
W/ the regcleaner I could use a bit more help as to what to remove. Thanks thanks thanks! Also, w/ the quicktime, when trying to unistall quicktime using regcleaner it says the uninstall file log is missing.... just confused and really wanting my itunes lol |

Okay so far you've done the following :
1. Add/Remove uninstall 2.Windows Uninstaller 3. Delete any iTunes/QuickTime folders remaning on the 'C' drive, open My Computer>Programs (right click on 'C' choose open, choose Programs). 3. You're now using regcleaner. Everything iTunes means just that. There cannot, for this, be such a thing as an iTunes file you don't have to remove ( You're clear that this applies to QuickTime as well, right?). When you're done empty your Recycle Bin and clear the temp folder as well. Reboot the computer and do a last check, there should be nothing left and regcleaner should no longer list QuickTime. Do a fresh download of QuickTime and a fresh Download of iTunes. Turn off all your security software before the installs. Install QuickTime first as a stand alone, reboot. Make sure it has all the permissions it needs to keep your firewall/av/anti-spyware from blocking it. Find some movie trailers to make sure. Go through the same drill with iTunes. That's it. |

Okay...so I am completely clean.
My one problem is finding Quicktime and iTunes seperately. I went to download Quicktime at Apple, and 7.0 only comes w/ iTunes 6.0 as a package. And, the downloader name is iTunesSetup... So, I am confused as to where to get Quicktime and iTunes seperately... Am very thankful for the help I have received from you thus far lol...just wanting to get this thing settled before I go back to college from break....

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Install QuickTime first and make sure it runs. Then install iTunes ( iTunes won't install QuickTime if it's already in your system which meas a common problem will be avoided.). |

Thank you so much. Both of them are working now. I've let my mother know to be a little more careful before doing stuff on the computer
