Acronis True Image Backup

Today I made a bootup CD and an image file of the entire hard drive which is stored on 4 CDs. I wonder what would happen if the hard drive failed? Could I install a new hard drive, boot up with the bootup CD and then image the hard drive? I think that the way it works without hard drive failure is that it just restores the hard drive to the state it was in when you made the backup, but I'm unsure how it would work with hard drive failure. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

The short answer: yes. as long as the new drive is of equal or greater size than the original
