Serial Number

My friend has a problem with his laptop and I took out the hard drive and connected it to my desktop as a "D" drive to copy his data files to CD's. He purchased a new Toshiba laptop and tried to install a program by Motic (motic.com) to his new computer and it asked him for the serial number. He accidently thru away the folder the CD came in with the serial number on it to put it in a more sturdy case. My question is, can I access this information from his old hard drive? Both systems are running Windows XP home.

Also, where is the registry filed stored and can I access it when the drive is the "D" drive? Thanks.

I did a Google search and found a few programs to retrieve lost keys, but it seems to be geared to finding the windows key...

Belarc Advisor will show what the keys are for some programs. Don't know about that specific one though, but won't hurt to try.
