Question Hard to remove program

I was attempting to install Norton Ghost 2003 that I picked up at a computer show and sale. Upon installation, I got a notice on screen that said "there's an Enterprise version of this software installed and must be removed before installing this version"; or something to that affect.

The problem is that I can't seem to locate this program. It was'nt located in the Add/Remove list. I think that it may be a program that was removed or deleted at some point, but there may be some registry entries that needs deleting. Is there a way to remove this program using the registry. BTW, I used Reg Scrub to clean up my registry before I tried installing Ghost 2003 a second time, but it still says that the program is there.

Is there another program that will "ghost" my PC besides Norton's Ghost?

Basic specs:
Intel P4 2.0 mhz
Win XP Pro w/sp2
ECS P4S5A/DX+ mobo
1 gig DDR 2100 Ram
nVidia GeForce FX5200 Ultra (128 MB)

Try this program to get any left over files : http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

It's a very real possibility that any left over Ghost files will play havoc with any other cloning software you try to install.

I prefer Acronis True Image to Ghost any day.

If I were to install Acronis, could it be possible that I would run into problems as mentioned by pam123?

Read this about Norton's Ghost : http://www.alanluber.com/pcfearfacto...2003review.htm
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...,107378,00.asp

The software that was initially on your computer looks to have been the 2003 version as well (given the specs of your computer and the notice you're in the time period).
Your best bet would be to dig it out by hand before you try installing Acronis.
If you want to know how to back up and edit the registry go here : http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q322756

Thanks pam123! It worked like a charm.

BTW, is there a difference between what Ghost does and any other backup programs. For instance, I use Dantz Retrospect to back up my computer.

Are'nt these programs similar?

Thanks again.

If you mean similar as in "they're both supposed to do the same jobs" then yes.
But, reality intervenes, if one's a disaster and the other isn't then "supposed" doesn't count for much.
One works and the other doesn't.
