Never Ending Java 5.0 Update 6 Issues

I don't know if anyone has experienced this, but I am having never ending issues with my Java Control Panel. When ever I open it, the font is extremely blurry - I had to double check becuase I thought for a moment I was loosing my vision and I couldn't see (but it is just blurry). Then, for some reason, it lost all of Java Application Files, so now I am getting errors that certain software (related to my X-FI) doesn't initiate when I boot up. Plus, when exiting the Java Control Panel, my computer freezes - no mouse / no keyboard / no nothin' !!! GRR.

I have attempted uninstalling and re-installing again, but it didn't change anything.

Now, I am starting to wonder if it has something to do with this version of Java, but following the golden rule, I didn't want to install an older version as it is advised to keep software updated.

It seems I have a plethora of options, but I can't decided which route to take... any advice?

TIA,
Ryan

Okay, here's a list to Java /Firefox problems and their fixes : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java

I never had a problem with The Java Control Panel, or the updates, but my install is left at defaults and kept for security .

edit : http://www.webct.com/tuneup/viewpage...eup_windows_ie
Scroll down the page and you'll find that there's a list of settings for Java with IE/Firefox and with various security programs.
If the problem is one of settings, and not some sort of corruption problem, this may help sort it out.

I'm having the exact same problems! I also notice that whenever java is started or when I enter the Java control panel, the screen flickers and I can longer use my TV Card (I have sound but the picture is all black).

I have tried both java 1.4.2.10 and java 5.0 update 6. I have tried them seperately installed and both installed. I have also wiped all of java off my system including the registry entries and then tried reinstalling java 5.0 update 6 without any luck. Also, the java applets are failing when I try the installation validation at java.com.

Aaargh I'm getting really aggrevated now...and I don't know what to try next.

I haven't posted this back yet, as I am still testing to make sure this fixed the problems I am having, but I switched to Java 1.4.1_07 and haven't had any issues anymore, besides the ones I am having with RuneScape.

The Control Panel opens, closes, and works fine without freezing my computer.

I have been pleased so far with this version, but like I said, I have only been trying it out for 8 days, and was going to give it a few more before posting back.

If you want, uninstall and try 1.4.1_07 (available from Java's site) and see how it turns it, it has been all good so far for me.

WOW that actually worked! I installed 1.4.1_07, rebooted and everything is OK now! Thanks for the tip!
