Transferring Program Files

I have a new computer and no way of transferring my data base management program from the old computer. The software company that originally wrote the program ten years ago, no longer supports it and I have no hard copy of the program. The same company now has a "bigger and better" program for a few thousand dollars. However the old software serves me just fine.

Today at Best Buy, I saw a software that supposedly transfers programs (not just the data) between computers. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of these kind of programs and how effective are they? Are there any other methods of transferring program files between computers?

Thanks,

Thom

Is this a DOS or Windows-based program?

Now the question is - is it 16 bit for Windows 3.1 or 32 bit for Windows 95?

Then it may be difficult if it uses the registry. A 3rd party program may work, but there's no guarantees. Problem is not only the registry, but it puts system files all over the place.

If it is that important, just keep the old computer specifically to run the program.
