Problem with Word 2002 in Works Suite 2003
Hey PC Mechers,
I have Microsoft Works Suite 2003 installed on my computer. A while back it seemed like my hard drive was having some problems and some files were getting corrupted so I installed a new hard drive and transferred everything over to it. When I open Microsoft Word 2002 (part of Works Suite) I get a message that there is a problem with it and I should run Setup to fix it. It then goes on to open the program and it seems to run fine. Being the obsessive-compulsive type person that I am, I still want to fix it so I'll stop getting the message. When I do try to run setup, though, I get a message that it's looking for a file that it can't find: 511974.MAINSP3ff.msp. Apparently it is supposed to be in: C:\Program Files\Office Update 11\Cabs\511974, but it can't find it. Then I get the message, "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." I have the installation CD but that doesn't have what it needs. Can anyone help? |

Are Word and the Works Suite freshly installed on the new drive, or are they on a different drive still in use? If they're on an old drive, have you tried uninstall/reinstall?
edit: sry, slow typist...

I'm sorry, I didn't give enough details. When I put in the new hard drive I used the hard drive utility software that copies your old drive to the new one. The old drive is no longer in the system. I didn't think there were any serious problems on the old drive yet and I didn't want to take the time to re-install everything and then have to get all the settings re-set just right. So, no, it was not a fresh install. I have tried numerous times to uninstall it but I have the same problem as when I try to run setup to repair it, it won't let me uninstall it either with that file missing. If I try to re-install it from the CD it recognizes that it is already installed so I am stuck. The only thing I can think of is to manually delete the program so the installation CD no longer finds it, but I don't know what specifically to delete and from where.

When it's looking for that file in C: drive, can you change the drive letter to your CD-ROM drive?
I wonder if it would help to try to uninstall in Safe Mode? |

I tried hunting for it on the CD-ROM and it can't find it there either. It seems like maybe it has something to do with an online update or something based on the name of one of the folders it is supposed to be in (Office Update 11). I don't know. Anyway, how would I uninstall it in safe mode? I'd be willing to give that a try.

Guess I could have looked at the folder name closer... Have you tried the online update of the Office program? Maybe it will reinstall those update files for you.
