Any free software that will allow me to make a CD into an ISO?

I recently had an idea that I should take all my important computer discs, like my XP pro disc, software discs, ect. And convert them into an image file for safe storage on my hard disk in case something happens to the real CD. I realize that I could just copy the contents of the CD to a folder on the hard drive and then burn them to disc to achieve the same result, but having one ISO makes it a bit neater. I have a basic version of Nero that came with my DVD burner and it lets you burn ISO’s to disc’s but I can’t seem to figure out how to make a disc into an ISO, maybe you can't with this version. But is there any freeware that will do this?

I have not tried any of them - I use Winimage, which is shareware - as is WinISO.
