Windows MP 10 updating

How do you disable the automatic updates for this POS software? Only options it gives you is the intervals at which the updates are to take place and whether you want to be asked before the downloads begin.

TIA

Hi nuke,
I'm missing something here, other than the securuty hole I haven't seen a single update for Media player 10 in I don't know how long, and you're being inundated with them?
When did this start?

edit : Is this what keeps turning up :

The other critical update, MS06-005, is for a vulnerability in the way Windows Media Player processes bitmap (.bmp) files. An attacker could exploit this flaw by creating a malicious .bmp file that could allow remote code execution if a user viewed a malicious Web site or e-mail message. This vulnerability could also allow an attacker to take control of an affected system. The update is deemed critical for users of Windows XP SP1 and SP2 and Windows Server 2003, Windows 98/SE/ME, and Windows 2000 SP4.

The Windows Media Player flaw poses more of a ripe target for attackers, Sutton says. "Even though Windows Media Player is not something generally used to render images, it has the capability of doing that. It's not difficult to create a Web page that uses Windows Media Player to display an image instead of the default application. I think it's a ripe target for exploitation if we see public exploit code for it," Sutton says.
Because if it is you're having a problem with the automatic update not with Media Player 10

No, no. The thing is that when I'm setting up WMP 10 in the Tools > Options thing, I can't find a way to prevent the program from updating anything. I don't want WMP to connect to the Internet at all, not without my expressed permission.

You can do that with zonealarm, just set it to ask everytime it wants to connect then deny it unless you want it to connect.. I don't know if there is a way to keep it from asking or not.

Yeah Zone Alarm works and so does this : Automatic Windows Media Player Updates

If you do not want Windows Media Player to check for updates:

*
On the File menu, click Work Offline.

That comes from here : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...userlocale=409

Sorry nuke didn't understand what you meant.

NP, Pam, and thanks. I don't have ZA -nor do I want it-, I have Kerio, guess I'll use it to refuse WMP access to the Net. This SP2 is a pain in the arse, honestly. It creates more problems than it solves (like The Longest Journey constantly crashing).

I've played through The Longest Journey both with and without SP2 and no crashes.
Give these folks and The Longest Journey forum a read and see if they have a solution for you : http://forums.longestjourney.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13

S'ok. I installed TLJ in my gaming XP installation which is SP1 (and staying that way) and I've been playing without any problem till it crashed on me to-day again, but that's very different: crashing after 12+ hours of gameplay rather than every 12 min.

I'm seriously considering going back to SP1, especially after seeing that SP2 didn't help my problem with my webcam.
