fqpissed Backing up Software

I have an old computer with a graphics program on it (Visioneer). I need this program to print some pictures for my catalog. I want to get rid of the old computer!!!! This is the only thing I use that computer for.

How do I backup the software so I can put it on my new computer?

Thanks.

How old is this software exactly? If it is very old, then it may be possible to simply copy all of the files in the program's directory to the new computer to get it to work. However, if it is more recent, then you are going to need the original installation disk to install it on another computer.

What are the file extensions on the pictures? There may be other graphics programs, even some free ones, that can open them for printing.

File Extension

The file extension is max. If you can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

paperport will open those files (http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=.max). i am assuming that is what you have, tho, since i think that is what visioneer bundles with their scanners. depending on the version you have the ability to export them as other file types. i know the newer one does (vers 8), since that is what my parents have. you could just save them as a jpg or a tif and open them in any program from there on other computers.

Before you dump the computer, you might want to use your program to convert the files to something more usable, like jpeg.

Why don't you just grab the CD that came with the Visioneer scanner and install Paperport on the new computer? To buy the latest version would set you back 100 bucks.

EDIT: Here's a free .max file viewer:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/paperport.html

The PaperPort Viewer enables you to view PaperPort items that were saved in .max format. If you are not using PaperPort but were sent a .max file, you can use this free viewer to view and print PaperPort image items (.max files)
