PC Beginner Utilites Suite 2006

Has anyone heard of PC Beginner Utilities Suite before?

http://www.pcbeginner.com/tools/pcdoctor.htm

If so, is it worth buying or a waste of time?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

Read through this thread that was started a year ago : http://forums.techguy.org/reviews/36...-comments.html

It doesn't appear to be an outright fraud but someone is certainly pushing the limits here.
If you've got $30 to spare and you want to try it out, fine, everyone likes to experiment but let's be real. Some of those utilities are worthless ( An all purpose virus program that you never have to update?) and the others are available for free.

I did feel that it was a little questionable. What got my interest was the Find/Reset Password software. Every know and then, I get someone that locks themselves out of their PC because they forgot their password.

It sounds like a collection of freeware, easily available on the Internet or at BestBuy for $6.95. I agree with Pam ( although I did not see the virus program that never needs updating ??) don't waste your time, or money.

Here's a few things that bothers me.

1. No street address
2. No guarantee information
3. No phone number to call
4. Fax number goes to 775 which may be Nevada, or may be China! - and yet the PO Box says College Station, Texas.

You're going to have to google for what to do about that, it's not something we can help you with.
But consider this, if that find/reset password can actually be used on any system then you're about to buy a hacker's dream tool.
Which brings up the question, given Bill Bright's post, as to whether or not it will work (and if it doesn't what else on the cd doesn't) and what reputable company would advertise and sell such a program ?
It's true that system admins can reset user passwords but you really have to wonder about something that would let anyone, unknown, do it.
It's possible we have misunderstood and that cd will only work on one computer but in that case it would be useless for what you want to use it for .

The Ultimate Boot CD has many tools for testing/repairing pc components. Not only has it become my number one tool to reach for, it is FREE!

Thanks Bill,
You brought up some points that I failed to realize and I did not even know about the 775 number could go to China.

Also Pam123, please forgive my forgetfulness. I should have know better than to post anything about going around a password.

I, of all people, know what the forum rules are, but it's common knowledge that the UBCD has a password resetting tool (which is a common tool available standalone from the developer). NO further details on this specific item will be provided here.

I would not pay $30 for a suite such as that when there are free tools out there, the UBCD being just one of them, that do a LOT of things. All the $30 is doing is saving you the time and trouble of finding and downloading your own free/shareware tools.

As far as that 775 fax number goes - it probably is Nevada. They are probably using eFax, who always gives you a number in a different state unless you pay extra for a "local" fax number. I use eFax, I'm in Illinois but my fax number is in Utah.
