Question Excel Graphs - active link

How would one go about linking an existing excel graph from one excel file to another excel file that will update itself when the original is updated?

I have a graph created from a pivot table in one file and want to copy the graph into another excel file that will update itself from the original graph when I add/change data in the pivot table.

We are using Excel 2003 SP2

Thanks

Just right click the tab for the worksheet and select "Move or Copy" (or Edit>Move or Copy Sheet). In the dialog that pops up, locate your target workbook in the "To Book" field (where you want the chart to be placed) and then select the location within that workbook using the "Before worksheet" box. If you wish to leave a copy in the original workbook, tick the "Make a Copy" option.

Your target worksheet will have to be open for it to appear in the list of available workbooks.

The chart will then automatically update everytime the source data changes.

I followed the directions but it looks like what I was intending will not work.

When you move/copy the graph it loses it data source from the pivot table. This happens within the same workbook or a different one. You can reassociate the data range in you move/copy the graph within the same workbook but if you try and assign a graph a data range from the pivot table that exists in another workbook I get an error message. It states that if you specify data from a pivot table located in a different workbook the graph will become static and that you must place the graph within the same workbook for the graph to update with the data.
