Need a free Map software for my laptop[no gps].

I am going on a road trip next week and will be taking my laptop but I don't have a gps unit and no internet access while on the road.

Is there any free Map software I can dl onto my laptop to help me navigate this trip easily.

Google earth, Yahoo maps, Mapquest, etc will not work without an internt connection.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

It not free but MS Works comes with Streets & Trips. Can probably find it as a stand alone too.

myGmaps : http://mygmaps.com/mygmaps.cgi/ , plot the road trip and then save the file to your computer, could be useful and once you've done that you won't need an internet connection.

MS Streets and Trips is cheap enough. CompUSA has it for 40 bucks, and there's a $10 mailin rebate. You may be able to find last year's edition cheaper - or even discounts on the current version. If you are going to be taking trips often, you can buy a GPS module and mapping software in the $100 range - MS and DeLorme are the 2 most popular.

if you have decided upon a route already, you can set it up in google earth, and the results are cached. doesn't allow for much deviation from the initial plan, but it will work.

also, if you have a phone with an internet connection, you can use google earth and not worry about caching results. this will depend on how fast your connection is, tho
