You're not adding doc to the file name when you try to save it, are you?
If you are don't do that. If that's not the problem is it only one document or are you having more general trouble as well? Was the Word 2000 file edited on a computer running Word 2003? When did this start? You haven't installed something like normal.dot recently?

I am not adding .doc to the end of the file. It's happening on more than 1 file. Only have word 2000 associated with it. It doesn't happen in safe mode. Any ideas?

If it's not happening in safe mode then you have another program on the computer that's interfering, Word itself is okay.
At a guess it's something was added recently or that was changed or updated recently that's now the problem. I haven't heard about problems with it but have you installed any of the update patches for the Word vulnerablilty? If you're in an office with automatic updates and patches anything can show up some morning. Bring up windows Task manager first in safemode so you know what the basics are, that will tell you what to leave alone, and then in normal mode. In normal you'll be ending one task at a time, first in Applications and then in Processes until you find the culprit. |

It looks like a conflict with a HP driver - if you have a HP printer or scanner, I'd update its driver to the latest.

Actually hp had me d/l a patch because I couldn't print from the internet....glc...do I need to update the drivers on the PC in which the printer is housed on becuase it is NOT housed on this printer. I only d/l the file from hp on the shared pc.
I've also tried reinstalling office but I keep getting a message of "unable to access config. for ms web server". Last edited by bruinator; 05-30-2006 at 12:27 PM. |

I get that message every time I install Office 2000 on a newer machine. Just hit OK and it should continue to finish the install.
