Family Tree Maker 2005
My mother in law bought this software and installed it. In order for to save anything she needs to upgraded to full version or enter and upgrade code. Anybody know of a place to get a code?

Please read the forum rules:
9. Zero Tolerance on Piracy NO WAREZ. NO SERIALS. NO CRACKS / CRACKING / ILLEGAL PROGRAMS. Anything that can be used in software piracy or other illegal software activities will result in a ban. Same goes for abusive programs like mailbombers, forum and usenet flooders and email harvesting bots. This also includes unreleased products. Workarounds which comprimise security, bypass password protection, or otherwise go to gain unauthorized access to private data or information is prohibitied. Links provided to locations that offer tutorials or tips for any of these activities are also forbidden. If she has already bought the software and it erroneously isn't showing up as being purchased, then she is going to have to contact the software maker and work something out. |

Sounds like she has the Starter Edition - which is free. Did she buy a shareware CD or something?
FTM 2005: How do I unlock the Starter Edition? Question How do I unlock the Starter Edition of Family Tree Maker? Answer You can upgrade to the full version of Family Tree Maker by purchasing an Unlock Code for $29.95 from our Online Store. This unlock code is then entered into the Family Tree Maker program, and it unlocks the previously locked features. To begin the upgrade process: Click the Purchase Full Version option under the Help menu, or click any locked menu item. The Purchase Full Version dialog box appears. Click the Purchase Family Tree Maker 2005 button. You are taken to the Shops at Ancestry.com. If you wish to add other items to your cart, click the Continue Shopping link. When you are ready to complete your purchase, click the Proceed to Checkout link. If you are prompted to log in, log in under your existing Ancestry.com username and password. Do this even if you have never purchased anything from Ancestry.com. Use the "I am a new customer" option only if you have never had a username and password on Ancestry.com. Fill out the billing address and credit card information screens. Please note that the billing address screen is a standard screen in the checkout process and needs to be filled out even if you are not purchasing anything that needs to be shipped. When you have completed the purchase, a screen with an unlock code will be generated. We highly recommend that you save this code and print the page for later reference. After you have saved your unlock code, follow the instructions on the page to copy and paste the code into the Purchase Full Version dialog box in Family Tree Maker. When you have pasted the unlock code into the Purchase Full Version dialog box, click the Verify Unlock Code button. FTM will verify the unlock code, and if it is valid, it will unlock the program. -------------------------------------------------------- HOWEVER, I also found this: FTM: How do I save my file? Question There's no Save or Save As command in Family Tree Maker's File menu. How do I save the changes or additions I make to my file? Answer You do not need to save your information because Family Tree Maker is a database program that saves your information regularly while you are using the program, as well as when you quit. This reduces the risk of losing your data. Note: This means that you cannot quit the program without saving. To get rid of any changes you make, you must fix them manually or make separate backup files regularly so you can revert to an old file if you need to. You may especially want to make a separate backup right before you make any major changes to the data in your file. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FTM 2005: What's the difference between the Starter Edition and the full version? Question What is the difference between FTM Starter Edition and the full version of Family Tree Maker? Can I change my Starter Edition to the full version? Answer Family Tree Maker Starter Edition is a free downloadable version of the Family Tree Maker program. In the Starter Edition, some features that allow you to share and export data may be disabled immediately or after a short trial period. However, you can always enter as much information as you would like in the program, and you can use the built-in Web Search and Web Merge features to search Ancestry.com and merge relevant data into your file. Other questions addressed in this article: How do I know which version of FTM I have? What menu items are disabled in the Starter Edition? How can I upgrade to the full version? How do I know which version of FTM I have? When you are in Family Tree Maker, from the Help menu, choose System Information. The first line (Program Version) will tell you what version of Family Tree Maker you have. What menu items are disabled in the Starter Edition? If you have the Starter Edition, certain menu items will have a padlock next to them. The locks indicate that this menu item is only available in the full version of Family Tree Maker. Locked items in the Starter Edition are: File Menu: Save View Save View As Open Saved View Edit Menu: Add Bookmark Manage Bookmarks Go to Bookmark Go to History Books Menu: All items are locked. View Menu: Books Map Timeline Outline Descendant Report Ancestor Tree - Standard, Fan, and Vertical Descendant Tree - Standard and Fan Hourglass Tree - Standard and Fan All-In-One Tree All items under other menus are available. |
