Linking in MS Excel
Is it possible to have cells automatically becomes links to a certain page based on what is in the cell? I''m trying to have the cells in this excel file automatically (or as automatically as possible) link to:
"http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?name=(cell contents here)" So if I type in "Akroma, Angel of Wrath" in a cell, I want it to automatically become a link to: http://gatherer.wizards.com/gatherer...Angel of Wrath I wasn't sure how to ask this, but I'm hoping I made some sense. |

If I understand you correctly you want to create a URL (this is for the web) ?
If so here's how : http://delphi.about.com/od/interneti.../aa072004a.htm

From what I can understand of that page, it doesn't seem like it.
I really don't know how to ask this... Say I have a list typed out on a spreadsheet. I want to make everything I type out into a hyperlink to the same URL except for the part at the end of the address. The part at the end of the address should be the contents of the cell. So say my list is like: Quote:
I want to link them all to "http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?name=" and have the contents of the cell be at the end of the link. http://gatherer.wizards.com/gatherer...sp?name=Card 1 http://gatherer.wizards.com/gatherer...sp?name=Card 2 http://gatherer.wizards.com/gatherer...sp?name=Card 3 But to do that, I'd have to go through a monotonous process of "right clicking the cell->Hyperlink->Address...etc" for all of the cells. Is there something in Excel that would automatically make them all link to "http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?name=" with the cell data inserted at the end? I did some googling the closest thing I could find was this. It looks like what I'm trying to do anyway based on this image that was on the page. Everything in that image is linked to something. I can't make any sesne of the directions though. EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. It isn't totally automatic, but it's good enough for me. Last edited by DemonSX; 06-14-2006 at 12:49 AM. |

What version of Excel are you using?
I can't look at that file because I don't have Excel on this computer but I do remember a similar problem with a work around that I can checkout later today. |

My god, Excel experts
After I got past all the "make a new macro"advice, which is somethng you may want to do anyway,I found this : http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...116591033.aspx and got some "down and dirty" advice. 1. Save a few copies of your spreadsheet. 2. Now experiment with the short cut and function keys. There is an undo function but if you really mess up that's what the other copies are for. It's possible some combination will work for you but no one could really predict what it would be. If all else fails go to the macro creation drop down and start over again, including the link in the macro. Quote:

I'm using Excel 2003.

So now my spreadsheets look something like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...6/untitled.png. The blue bullets are the links. The hyperlinks need to be in a cell other than where the formula's cell reference refers to because it results in a circular reference error if I try to make it in the same cell where the reference refers to. So if the formula is in 'cell B4,' the reference can't be 'B4' because then it'd just loop around... I hope I made sense...nightmare with trying to sort out what noun refers to what when everything is a 'cell.' Last edited by DemonSX; 06-14-2006 at 07:31 PM. |

You made perfect sense.
The suggestions I got about macros and using those keyboard commands were intended to do the same thing. I'll add your solution to that list as well so we'll have a variety of options if someone else needs help. Thanks! |
