Free Backup Software

I recently got my small server upgraded, and I want to add some scheduled backing up to the mix. Im quite aware the most commercial backup software is very expensive, and its typically used with tape drives, and/or other server backup media. But again, this is a simple personal server (all im really doing is backing up to a InCD disc). All I need to find is some backup software which can run as a system service, even after im logged off. Anyone got any ideas?

TIA

NTBackup works fine and you can schedule it.

Well I gave NTBackup a shot. however it doesnt seem to want to be able to write to the CD, even though its formatted as InCD (Nero), and seems to work fine with other applications. Any idea why it could be doing this? Im trying to save the backup as an entire file on that disc.

TIA

Save the backup to a hard drive partition, then burn it to CD/DVD. You could also try Nero Back It Up - it comes with the Nero OEM Suite.

Yeah, i gave Nero BIU a shot. works fine, however it doesnt have an option to run as a background system service.

Heh, seems to me that finding such free software will be more difficult than I thought.

Seems to me that you can schedule jobs with Nero BIU.

SyncBack is a flexible, and quite powerful backup and synchronization program that allows to to maintain backup copies of your files and folder, or to synchronize them, so that both locations always have a complete copy (e.g Laptop/PC). It offers different types of actions that let you choose how older and newer files are processed, which files should be excluded (by mask) and more. It offers standard file comparison based on the date and size, as well as optional MD5 checksum, which will detect even the slightest modifications to files. SyncBack also supports scheduled projects, FTP and zip compression of backups, as well as network login, simulation runs and more.

Yep, looks like SyncBack does the job. did a test to ensure it would run even though I logged off, and it seems it did the trick! Thanks EzyStvy!

Need to bring this thread back to the front for a minute. SyncBack coupled with Nero InCD works fine. However everytime I shutdown/reboot my server (I have to now and then), the InCD formatted disc I use suddenly only contains a bunch of HTML files generated by InCD claiming that I have no UDF reader installed. Why would this be happening, and how could I get InCD to make sure that cd essentially *stays* an InCD disc even after rebooting

TIA
