Delpart

So far I have d/l this to my hard drive and then to a floppy. Can someone please tell me how to use this after that? Do I just stick the floppy in a bootup and then the floppy does the rest?

TIA

Is the floppy bootable?

Basically, the computer will boot to the floppy disk and you'll end up at the a: prompt. From there you type "delpart" (without the quotes) and hit Enter. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

Assuming you didn't buy pre-formatted floppies the steps for creating a boot floppy for XP are as follows :
1. Place diskette in the computer.
2.Open My Computer, right click the A: drive and click Format.
3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
4. Click Start

You now have a bootable floppy and you can put whatever program you want to run on it.
What you have to remember is that many programs that require boot floppies will do this for you.
So check out the "Read Me" before you start.

Delpart is a simple .exe file - just copy it to a floppy prepared as described, boot with it, and at the A prompt, type delpart.

What I am looking for is a program, not delpart, in which I can put floppy in at bootup with some program on it that will allow me to delete what's on the hard drive before the OS, thats on the HD, shows up on my desktop.

Two solutions : http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html
http://www.knoppix.org/

The first is self-explanatory but may not be quite what you want.
The second allows you to use Linux to see, and manipulate, your windows programs without either installing Linux or allowing windows to load.
So you could, for instance, manually uninstall a program that you can't get to otherwise http://www.theeldergeek.com/manually...l_programs.htm

Here is a link to Partition Logic. Put it on a bootable floppy or CD and it will allow you to delete or re-partition a hard drive without windows or any other OS loading. I hope this is what you are looking for.

Delpart will do what you want - as will any zero fill utility. Zero fill will be part of the diagnostic software you can download from the hard drive manufacturer, or you can use Darik's Boot and Nuke on any brand drive - this is distributed as a floppy maker.

All you have to do to use Delpart is make a bootable floppy and copy it to the floppy as we have already described.

If you are looking for a floppy that you can simply put in and boot and sit back and watch it wipe the drive, such a thing does not exist. ANY utility to do this requires some degree of user interaction.
