Dban

Hi, I am trying to fit DBAN on a ms dos startup diskette but it takes 1.5 meg and change to fit on a 1.4 meg diskette. According to their web site and FAQs, I've tried everything they suggest and it's suppose to fit on a floppy but it won't for me. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please help me out. I would really appreciate it.

TIA

Q: Why doesn't the ZIP file or its contents fit on a floppy disk?

A: The ZIP file contains the DBAN install program.

Download the ZIP file to your desktop, unpack it, and double-click the "dban-1.0.6_i386.exe" program. This program will create the DBAN floppy disk. The readme file has extra information about creating the DBAN floppy disk.

You cannot install DBAN by copying or unpacking the ZIP file to a blank floppy disk or other media.

--------------------------------------

You have to start off with a BLANK floppy in the drive, not a bootdisk. This is the only thing in the FAQ that's left unsaid. The disk creation will make the floppy bootable.

Another way to do this is download the Ultimate Boot CD. It has DBAN and a TON of other utilities on it.

I did unpack it on my desktop. Check out the size of the executable and tell me the size of it? I have 1.4 meg floppy and it doesn't fit. And I did read them. What am I doing wrong then please?

Not sure if you are trying to copy the download to the floppy or not. What you do is unzip the download and run: dban-1.0.6_i386.exe . This with format the floppy and copy the program to the floppy.
I just tried it, to get it to load onto the floppy, I had to do a full format first then let DBAN do it's thing.
