Windows live messenger and XP???

Can someone please tell me if Windows Live Messenger will work on Windows XP Pro edition that has not got service pack 2 installed.
I havei installed it on one computer with service pack 2 and it works fine, I have tried to install it on another computer with windows XP Pro without service pack 2 as above and it wont install, said windows didnt have some file or other. and it didnt work.
so does it or doesnt it work with that early OS

It wouldn't surprise me though. M$ is discontinuing support for SP1 real soon. We are now at a point where *everyone* with XP should be on SP2.

Support for SP1 end Oct. 6 so yes it's still supported.

Is there a reason that you don't have SP2 installed on that PC? You're missing out on many security updates. The biggest one being SP2 itself.
