it doesn't work in a functional way or it doesn't work because you aren't calling the US/Canada? little bit more detail would be helpful

i don't know of any other free pc-to-phone services, so maybe if you posted the error you are getting we can help you.

look into gizmo if you don't feel like telling us your error. they have a restrictive free calls program, and i don't use it so i can't vouch for it. i have used the free skype program a lot and have not had any problems at all

Skype is kinda crappy IMHO because they need Skype as well.

skype is excellent in my opinion and if you buy credit then you can call land lines (no receiver computer needed) anywhere in the world.
if you don't buy credit then you can call anywhere in the US and canada for free.

if it doesn't physically work for you then something is wrong (not with the service) with your setup becuase it does actually work.

Skype is excellent, I don't use it personally but my father does (79 years old) to call friends in Canada without any problems. Like stated above in another reply that something is probably setup wrong in your settings.

not accurate. skype out allows you to call landline phones for a fee, but right now, all outgoing calls to the US/Canada are free. that means i can call my next door neighbor or my friends in Toronto at their house free of charge.

skype does offer that free of charge to the USA and Canada (ie you enter the 9-digit telephone number, not a skype name, just like dialing a regular telephone). you said you are trying to call someone in NY which falls within that category. all you have said is you are getting an error, but no mention of said error

if you don't want to use skype or gizmo, start googling. we can't just pull something out of nowhere. skype does work, though, as many have stated here. so perhaps you should just let us help you with your skype problem rather than search for an alternative

Hi guys,
sorry for taking so long to reply...I forgot I posted here!! lol. Anyways, with Skype you can call over your high speed internet to someone on a landline? That is cool...I bet I did something wrong or just didn't give it a chance, I'm the worst for trying software and then getting annoyed at my own incompitence and deleting it.

I will give it another go.

ok I just checked it out...

http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/#bubble

it does cost a fee to call landlines (as stated above). Is there a program where you can call landlines for free?

I'm like everyone else, I want everything for nothing
