Norton Ghost question ????

Purchased new WD harddrive. Put it in a Byeteec external. I used Norton to ghost my old drive to new. I tried to boot from the new drive and I got message NTLDR is Missing.I thought ghost gave you an exact image ?????

Thanks and Stay safe

Did you ghost the entire drive or just one partition on it?

Hmm, it seems to be a pretty common problem after Googling it. This is a weird solution but it might work if nothing else does: http://www.mcse.ms/message1263055.html

Is the new hard drive much larger than the old one?

Then it might be that 2 GB limit that the article I posted is talking about. Give that a try.

After reading that doctorgonzo.I dont have the time to mess with it. Sounds like Nortons usual CRAP software. I have Vicoms Drive works also. Ithink I will try it.

Thanks and Stay safe

You can also try Western Digital's Data Lifeguard software: that can be used to do a drive-to-drive copy.

Ghost doesn't always play nice with extrenal drives, so I never do it that way. It's easiest fastest, and best just to plug the drive in internally and then Ghost it, or use the manufacturer's utility as mentioned above (but I don't know off hand if they work with an external box either...).

I've never had a problem using Apricorn's OEM version of Acronis True Image to clone drives back and forth from the IDE/SATA to external USB.

This is one reason I keep recommending Apricorn housings and Acronis True Image if you want to buy a Ghost equivalent.
