VB.Net and Database Question

I have found myself dabbling in programming using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition these past few days. Better late than never I guess. I'm taking it one step at a time but so far I'm starting to get the hang of this thing called "programming".

Anyway, I want to develop a POS software a year or so after I am confident enough in VB.Net and I want some clarifications. Is it possible/advisable to make/use a database within the software created under VB instead of using Access, SQL, and the like.
