Is it dangerous to update Mobo bios?-If so, how dangerous (to what degree of damage; and what kind of damage)?

Rule 1 : Don't update the bios without a good reason.
You're adding a specific function or correcting a specific problem, the bios doesn't need updates for any other reason. It's not a graphics card. If you get it wrong you will have an unbootable computer until you replace the bios you just destroyed with the new one you've bought from http://www.badflash.com/.

It is safe if it is done properly with the correct bios and the correct tools. With exceptions, the safest way is with a floppy boot disk and flashing tool. Other methods are varying degrees of "safe" and *ANY* power interruption during the flashing process *will* kill the bios.
