upgrading to MS Office 2003

A family member has decided to upgrade to MS Office 2003 from XP but the one hesitation that I have in helping her is losing her previous emails along during the process. The sales person told her that all she had to do was put in the new CD and everything would be taking care of...but after doind some reading on MS site it looks more complicated than that.

I sugested taking the software back because in reality she does not need it...but she already opened it so we all know what that means

Now..has any of you had any experience (good/bad) with such an upgrade?

Thanks for any feed back!

just have her export her personal folder in outlook to a pst file before proceeding with the upgrade, just in case something does go wrong during you can restore everything.

open outlook, then go to file>import export>choose export to a file>scroll down to personal folder file .pst>highlight where it says personal folder at the top and check the box to include subfolders>save it to an easy location i would recommend in your my documents or on the desktop, you can leave the options on replace duplicates wih items exported, choose finish and it iwll back up everything in her personal folder (contacts, inbox, deleted items, etc) once its completed go ahead and upgrade to 2003, when completed check and see if everything is still in her outlook if its all gone, then just go to file import/export>choose import from another file or program> choose personal folder file>navigate to where you have the backup .pst file>next window highlight where it says personal folder and make sure include subfolder is checked>next choose import items into the same folder in and choose that personal folder, click finish and it will restore all email, calender, contact items

Have to let common sense kick in....If everyone that upgraded to 2003 lost their mail, MS would go out of business.....But, you should always backup your mail anyway...
