fax software

Is there any software that will let you send a fax through the internet for free?
Normally I use Word in the past, but I dont have a modem(dial up) on my PC anymore.

Not free, but there is Efax. Why don't you just buy a cheap $10 winmodem?

He might not have a phone line to spare, or in that room, which might be why he wants to use the internet. I think he will be happy with efax, however.

Depends how much faxing he needs to do - Efax's fees add up.

Efax offers something like 25 free fax pages per month, however the catch is fax spammers will eventually end up with your number and the recieved spam pages count against your total. Unfortunately, there is really no way to prevent fax spam.

Call me cynical, but it's a convenient way for Efax to tell you you need to upgrade to their pay service.

You *HAVE* to use the pay service to SEND faxes.

I use the free service to receive only, and I get maybe 2 spam faxes a month. I've had the number for years.
