What else can I use to burn DVDs besides Nero?

Im so sick of Nero(the newest version) that I would like to know what other programs/software is out there that I could use to burn DVDs to view on my TV?

Nero takes soooo long to transcode Im just sick of it.

What do you guys use?

Have you tried using other software to do the transcoding - then using Nero simply to do the burn?

thanks for the replies.

System specs Dell 8300 2.8ghz,1200mbRAM, 128RAM video card, Windows XP

Could you recommend some other programs for transcoding?

I think Ive tried doing that before. I used WinAV Video Converter to change an avi video file into MPEG 2 and then put it into Nero, enabled smart encoding and it didnt do anything. It still took forever to transcode. Do I have to check the "Burn-at-once" box to get it to work?

Danmer, thanks for the link Ill check it out.

A good two-pass encode can take hours. One pass encodes are quicker but then you sacrifice quality.

How long are they taking?

For general use I find Roxio 7 much better then Nero but haven't tried Roxio 8 yet. Nero has been getting extremely bloated lately and needless recodes has been a big complaint. I also use TMPGEnc for more serious stuff, but it takes awhile even with a dual core.

If you did a drag and drop through windows and a DVD burner installed on your PC would it burn a regular data DVD?

No, the builtin XP burning engine is only CD-compatible.

DVD Decrypter is still available for download.

Lightning UL, the author of DVDDecrypter, put out a very good free burning software called ImgBurn

If you are needing to transcode a lot of DivX files to DVD, it might be easier to get a DivX certified player. They can be had for $40-50 no sweat. It saves a lot of time transcoding. Besides, you can stack about 3-6 movies on a single DVD disk!

This is my second post here. I've been receiving the newsletter from PC Mech for quite some time and have thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning everything from the PC Mech web site.

A web site for getting all sorts of information on DVD recording is www.videohelp.com. They have a lot of info on the subject. It helps to keep me up with what's new out there.

I believe this link will be of some help to you.
