If you open one of the docs can you edit/modify it?
Did you by any chance copy the files off a cd?

Do not open them directly off the flash drive. Copy them to the hard drive first.

I copied them to the harddrive. It worked fora little while, but the save as... dialogue has appeared again.
There is no read only optin when I first click on the document either, which is strange... Last edited by gasamonroe; 12-13-2006 at 02:29 PM. |

If those are the only Word files you're having trouble with I would re-save them when the save as dialog appears.
Something glitched when the files were saved initially and that may get you out of whatever it was.

We're edging ever closer to a repair reinstall or a full uninstall and reinstall.
Before I recommend that do you have any reason to think that one of the zero day word hacks (2 are out in the wild now) has hit your Word files? What security scans have you done? |

I've done an anti-virus scan with AVAST! Anti Virus on some of the word files involved, and have had no problems... I'll try to do a full uninstall

Can you try the save as and save all the documents in rtf ?
Can you work with them in that form? |
