Read through this thread :
http://www.d-a-l.com/help/archive/in...p/t-14423.html You're going to need third party software that works on both 98 and XP. If you already have restore software check the specs before you buy any since it could be what you need.

It's recommended in the thread and this is a demo, so you can at least find out if it will see the qic files before you part with any cash. It runs on both the 9X operating systems as well as XP so that shouldn't be a problem. |

As Windows 98 and Windows Me Backup were both developed by Veritas, it is possible to use the commercialy available Veritas Backup Exec software to restore your Windows 98 or Me backups to a Windows XP system. The latest version sold for home or small office use is called Back Up My PC, and it supports Windows 98SE, Windows NT 4 with SP 4, Windows 2000 Workstation, Windows Me, and Windows XP.

Thank Pam & GLC for your advice. I have had a look at at reccomended sites but cost of the programmes are silly money to me as ! have only one programme to get restore.
I have a spare drive here that i was thinking of temporaly connecting and installing 98 on it I could then recover the prog and put it on a cd . what do you thnk? will it work? this will cost me nothing but time |

If you can get 98 running on your computer, or you know someone who still uses it and will let you load those files on it, then yes it will work.
You mean data, not a program, right ? |

yes it is a programme. and I have reistalled win98 and found that the disk is corrupted and that the programme needs a license to run which was lost years ago the guy that wrotethe programme left the company years ago also it only runs on one maqchine. so you will not be surprised I have given up.
Thanks for trying to help Ian |
