I cannot get check disk to run

This is a 40GB HDD with WinXP on it and several partitions. I am running Partition Magic 8 from the floppy drive. I am trying to fix some errors and am instructed to run CHKDSK /r from the dos prompt. I get the message Bad command or file name.

What am I doing wrong?

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Are you naming the volume (partition id) to be checked?

Are you still booted up with the partition magic flopy and trying to do that?? If so thats why it isn't working. Boot the PC up normally and either go to my computer and right click the C drive and go to properties then the tools tab, and there you'll see error checking, and you can schedule a full chkdsk for the next time the PC boots, or go to the WinXP command line and do your chkdsk /r there. As long as your at the C prompt there you don't have to specify, and finally if your PC will not boot into windows, then boot with the XP CD and go into repair console, which will take you to a command line interface and there you can do your chkdsk. typing help chkdsk at the command line gives you the usage and all the options of the command.
